Treatments
Specialising in Spinal, Sports Injuries, Pre and Post Operative Care, the treatments your Physiotherapist selects will be based on the clinical findings during your assessment.
Manual Therapy
Benefits
Electrotherapeutic Modalities
- Ultrasound – which uses high frequency sound waves to treat injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues. This can provides pain relief and optimise the healing process by stimulating circulation and cellular activity.
- Pulsed Shortwave Therapy – The pulsed electromagnetic field which is emitted from the applicator will be transmitted through the tissues, and will be absorbed in those of low resistance, which are tissues like muscle, nerve, those which are highly vascular, tissues in which there is oedema, Swelling or recent haematoma (collection of blood). This can aid the healing of the tissue, reducing inflammation and increasing the cellular activity.
- TENS (transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) which is used to relieve pain by inhibiting the passage of pain signals to the brain. The units are ‘pocket size’ and portable and so can be worn by patients during daily activity. This can usually reduce or eliminate the need for pain medication.
- Interferential therapy uses two medium frequency currents which interact in the tissues to produce a variety of effects. This modality may be used to reduce pain and spasm, increase local blood flow and decrease swelling.

Muscle Re-education, Strengthening and Flexibility Training
Tailored to your individual needs these are an essential part of your recovery from your problem. Specifically tailored to you as an individual to supplement the effects of other treatments being used. Exercises may be designed to:
- Strengthen muscles
- Mobilise joints
- Stretch tight tissues,
- Increase stamina and fitness
- Improve balance and co-ordination
- Improve core stability

Acupuncture
This used to stimulates the brain via the nerves in skin and muscle. This stimulates the body’s own healing and releases pain relieving chemicals which aid recovery by enhancing the body’s ability to ‘self repair’. Dry needling can be used to release the muscles around a joint increasing movement and restoring function.

Biomechanical Assessment
Observation of your posture and analysis of your gait can give the physiotherapist insight to the underlying issues that are contributing to your problem. From this static or dynamic assessment (using a treadmill) appropriate retraining can be given.
