Bikefit
If a cyclist is sitting in the wrong position for their height and build; it can lead to pressure on the neck and/or back as well as issues with the buttocks, hamstrings or Achilles. This is the case for professional cyclists; amateur competitive cyclists as well as (most often) those who ride for pleasure.
Be safe
A correct bikefit leads to a safer cyclist as you are in a good riding position to see all that is going on around you; because let’s face it car drivers are not always the most considerate of road users!
Maximise performance and comfort
Andrew Baldwin, director and clinical lead orthopaedic physiotherapy specialist at Physio Plus, said “A good bike-fit maximises performance and comfort whilst minimising strain on the body. Our service will help riders get the very most out of the muscle systems used in cycling. We’ll also make sure their positioning on the bike promotes the correct skeletal alignment. This will prevent undue strain on the joints.”
Using your own bike on the clinic’s turbo trainer, Andy & Stuart ensure that each bike-fit customer will receive a comprehensive assessment; which follow the principles taught by Andy Sexton, of Bike Science in Bristol, and Retül, the leading bike-fit technology company
Who benefits from a bikefit?
Competitive cyclists
Often they have their bike adjusted to their height etc. by the supplier. However, they do not always adjust the tilt of the seat or other little measurements to give them the most comfortable riding position or relieve pressure in key areas. This is why they need come in to have their bike fitted to them. By adjusting key components they can ride for longer and more efficiently to shave time off their ride. This can also means that they are not in pain after their training/race.
Recreational cyclists
Unfortunately, individuals and families who ride for recreation and enjoyment are not often fitted for their bicycles properly. This can be for a number of reasons such as – they purchased the bike online; they have grown since the bike was bought; it was bought as a gift for someone; they were not aware that this was something that could be done by the supplier. This often means that they go out for an enjoyable ride on their bike and then they ache in various joints the next day. This is easily prevented by having the bike adjusted to the best riding position for you, the cyclist. This can lead to more days of enjoyment by being able to ride on all the days with nice weather and not having to dread the aches the next day.
